Houston, TX. – 20th Annual ITS America Meeting & Exposition – May 5, 2010 – INRIX®, the leading provider of traffic services, announced its Smart Driver Network has grown to more than 2 million GPS-enabled vehicles giving drivers a reliable, real-time view of traffic conditions on more than 260,000 miles of highways, city streets and secondary roads nationwide.
Providing a foundation of continuous real-time speed and location reports to INRIX every minute for an average of 7 hours per day, per vehicle, commercial fleets – such as taxi cabs, service delivery vans and long haul trucks – represent the majority of INRIX’s network. INRIX intelligently combines these reports with data from consumer vehicles and GPS-enabled smartphones to deliver a service that updates traffic information to drivers every minute, ensuring they have the most accurate view of traffic conditions wherever they go.

More than 40 percent of all State DOTs in the United States rely on INRIX’s real-time traffic information for their daily operations, traveler information services and/or congestion performance measures. New projects in 2010 in 5 states – Texas, Massachusetts, Maryland, Minnesota and Ohio – are using INRIX traffic data and travel times for their planning efforts, statewide 511 systems or dynamic message signs.
INRIX also announced Ted Trepanier is joining INRIX from the Washington Department of Transportation (WSDOT) where he was Director of Traffic Operations. As a nationally recognized leader in transportation management, Trepanier will focus on deploying products and services that accelerate states’ efforts to reduce congestion, improve safety and address performance measurement requirements.

During his 26-year WSDOT career, Trepanier worked on a number of innovative planning, operations and safety projects. As a member of the Executive Leadership Team within the WSDOT Highway Safety Issues Group, Ted Trepanier was honored in November 2009 by the Roadway Safety Foundation (RSF) and the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) for the Group’s efforts to reduce traffic-related crashes, fatalities and injuries in Washington State. During his tenure at WSDOT, Trepanier’s national committee work included membership on the leadership teams for the AASHTO Standing Committee on Highway Traffic Safety, Subcommittee on Systems Operation and Management and the Subcommittee on Traffic Engineering.
