The Challenge:
The City of Austin has 1,000 signals which it reviews on a three-year rotation. Although considered a best practice, this rotation isn’t efficient as it could be. It doesn’t target and manage underperforming signals on key corridors and staff time is spent on signals that may not need changes.
Solution:
INRIX provided real-time vehicle probe data, historical data along with our Signal Analytics solution for an in-depth corridor analysis to spot opportunities to improve flow. The analysis also identifies signals currently working well.
Results:
Engineers focused attention on signals on key corridors to improve traffic flow, creating a new best practice that puts staff time into corridors where change will have the most impact on traffic.
