The Challenge
The City of Frisco, Texas, experienced rapid growth with more than 172 signalized intersections, creating increasing demands on traffic operations. Previously, the city’s approach was largely reactive, relying on citizen complaints submitted by phone, email, or the MyFrisco app to identify issues. This manual process often led to delays in detecting and resolving signal problems, making it difficult for staff to manage congestion and maintain smooth traffic flow effectively.
Solution
Frisco implemented INRIX Signal Analytics, a data-driven platform to monitor its entire signal network using connected-vehicle and performance data. The system was operational within just a few days after setup and immediately proved valuable, identifying issues such as a broken radar panel before citizen reports. With daily reports and delay rankings, traffic staff can now proactively monitor intersections, compare performance trends, and address problems quickly.
Result
By integrating Signal Analytics into its Traffic Management Center, Frisco transformed from a reactive to a proactive traffic management city. Staff now leverage real-time analytics to guide signal timing adjustments, deploy intelligent transportation systems, and evaluate roadway improvements. This approach has enhanced safety, reduced delays, and improved daily travel for thousands of residents.
