INRIX Analytics Introduces a Smarter Approach to More Effectively Managing Road Networks at Reduced Cost

Orlando, FL – ITS World Congress – October 18, 2011 – INRIX introduced at the 18th Annual ITS World Congress the industry’s first cloud-based data analytics services designed to improve how transportation agencies monitor, manage and measure the performance of their road networks. At a time when metro, regional, state, and national transportation agencies need it most, INRIX Analytics helps them drive cost out of daily operations, pinpoint areas that most benefit from road and transit improvements and better measure the impact of their investments.
“Now more than ever, government agencies worldwide are being required to stretch and justify every dollar invested in transportation – being asked to do more with less,” said Rick Schuman, Vice President of Public Sector, INRIX. “INRIX Analytics offers agencies a simple to use, proven tool that improves how they allocate transportation funds and evaluate investments.”
Key INRIX Analytics benefits include:
• Better Insight in Operations. INRIX Analytics provides a system-wide view of traffic that enhances traffic operations. A customizable daily dashboard show agencies an immediate view of traffic conditions on key bottlenecks and other pain points highlighting duration of delay for each slowdown in comparison to free flow and expected travel times. INRIX Analytics seamlessly integrates agency sensor, incident and work zone data with information from INRIX’s crowd-sourced Smart Driver Network™ — covering more than 2 million roadway miles and interchanges — enabling agencies to gain insight into conditions in areas previously blind to operations improving public safety and reducing incident delay costs.
• Pinpoint Planning. Through a more thorough and complete view of the road network by segment, by day, by hour, agencies can identify the severity of traffic at various chokepoints with much greater precision. By pinpointing areas that offer maximum benefit from improvements, agencies can invest limited transportation dollars with greater confidence.
• Unparalleled Performance Measurement. As agencies streamline operations and target investment, INRIX Analytics offers the following performance metrics:
o Peak hour congestion assessment comparing congestion levels from year to year, day to day, hour to hour in 1 minute increments.
o Travel time index representing a ratio of peak period travel time to free flow travel time
o Identify bottlenecks and other congested locations for each hour of the week that the average travel speed is significantly below free flow.

INRIX performance measurement tools include a configurable data downloader that extracts detailed traffic archive data by day, time and road segment. Built-in historical analysis tools enable configurable traffic performance measure graphing, plotting and mapping in ways that uncovers additional insights and presents key findings with maximum impact.
Independently Verified, Proven Data Quality
INRIX Analytics combines the world’s best data and analytic tools – all in the cloud accessible by nothing more than a web browser. Quality analytics starts with quality data. In the largest ongoing test of traffic data quality in the world and under a variety of road and weather conditions, the University of Maryland found INRIX data accurate within 2 miles per hour of actual travel speeds across 30 site tests in seven states over the past three years, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
INRIX Analytics is the result of collaboration with the University of Maryland’s CATT Lab based on software developed for the I-95 Corridor Coalition and its member agencies as part of the Coalition’s Vehicle Probe Project. Since 2008, the Project has mined crowd-sourced traffic data with advanced analytics techniques to turn billions of data points into powerful insights that can now be extended to help all agencies take a smarter approach to how they build, manage and measure their road networks.
INRIX will begin offering the service starting in North America in January 2012 and to agencies in INRIX markets worldwide by the end of the year. The company will provide additional details and demos of INRIX Analytics at the ITS World Congress October 16-20th. Transportation agencies interested in learning more or getting a personal demo of the new analytics service should contact INRIX at pubsecbusdev@inrix.com.
