Empowering Large Agencies with Smarter Signal Management
Managing transportation networks at scale is a complex challenge. Cities, states, and Metropolitan Planning Organizations (MPOs) need to monitor and optimize thousands of traffic signals across vast areas. However, not all traffic signals are managed the same way—different teams oversee different corridors, projects, or regions. That’s where Signal Groups, a feature in INRIX Signal Analytics, comes in.
What is Signal Groups?
Signal Groups is a powerful feature designed to help agencies efficiently assign specific traffic signals and corridors to designated teams or engineers. It allows administrators to create custom groups of signalized intersections and corridors, ensuring that engineers and traffic practitioners only access the data relevant to their assigned areas.
With Signal Groups, agencies can:
- Organize intersections and corridors by region, project, or functional responsibility.
- Assign traffic engineers, consultants, or other stakeholders to specific groups.
- Ensure users receive automated alerts and reports tailored to their assigned signals.
- Improve focus by limiting access to only the signals and corridors within an engineer’s area of responsibility.
How Does It Work?
Using Group Management in the INRIX Signal Analytics dashboard, agency administrators can:
- Select the Signals/Corridors Admin tab in the left panel.
- Navigate to Group Management.
- Create a new group by selecting the ‘+ Add New Group’ button.
- Choose intersections and corridors by selecting them manually or using the polygon selection tool.
- Name the group and assign specific users to it.
- Save the group, ensuring only assigned users can access those intersections and corridors.
Once assigned, users in a Signal Group will see only the relevant signals and corridors on their dashboard, enabling them to focus on what matters most.
Key Benefits for Transportation Agencies
1. Enhanced Regional and Corridor-Based Management
Agencies can divide their transportation networks into manageable regions or project-specific areas, ensuring that engineers focus on the signals they oversee without distractions from an entire citywide network.
2. Streamlined Monitoring with Automated Alerts
Users can subscribe to daily, weekly, or monthly notifications, ensuring they stay informed about real-time traffic signal performance and congestion patterns in their assigned corridors.
3. Simplified Access Control for Large Teams
Instead of granting access to an entire agency’s traffic signal database, Signal Groups enables controlled visibility, improving data security and efficiency.
4. Improved Collaboration on Projects
Consultants, temporary project teams, and regional engineers can be assigned to specific Signal Groups related to ongoing projects, keeping them focused on relevant data.
Who Should Use Signal Groups?
Signal Groups is ideal for large transportation agencies that oversee expansive networks of traffic signals. It benefits:
- City and State DOTs managing traffic signals across multiple districts.
- MPOs overseeing regional transportation infrastructure.
- Local municipalities seeking better coordination between departments.
- Consultants and engineering firms working on targeted transportation projects.
