Real-Time Cross-Border Intelligence When It Matters Most - INRIX

As global supply chains continue to navigate policy shifts, geopolitical risks, and economic uncertainty, visibility across U.S. borders has never been more critical. Yet today, that visibility is harder to find.

The U.S. DOT Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS), the federal agency responsible for publishing official cross-border data, typically releases trade and vehicle crossing statistics with at least a two-month lag—and with the current U.S. government shutdown, that delay will likely grow even longer. At INRIX, we believe decision-makers shouldn’t have to wait months for insights that can be available daily. That’s where the INRIX Cross Border Insights dataset comes in.

Near Real-Time Visibility Across Every U.S. Land Border

Cross Border Insights provides directional, observed probe counts for commercial and consumer vehicle flows across more than 140 U.S.-Mexico and U.S.-Canada border crossings. Leveraging connected-vehicle data captured at high frequency, the dataset delivers the timeliness, accuracy, and granularity required to make informed, proactive decisions.

Unlike aggregate government data which only provides counts that are entering the U.S., INRIX provides crossing-level precision and differentiates northbound vs. southbound flows, as well as commercial vs. consumer activity—offering a sharper, more dynamic picture of cross-border trade behavior.

Highly Correlated with Ground Truth – and Delivered Daily

Accuracy is essential when replacing traditional data sources. Validation studies have shown Cross Border data is highly correlated with ground truth, with correlations reaching as high as 0.96 at the U.S.–Canada border. This strong relationship confirms that INRIX probe counts reliably reflect actual vehicle crossings while being available months before official reports are released. In other words, organizations don’t have to choose between accuracy and timeliness—they can have both.

Powering Smarter Decisions for Supply Chain, Policy, and Investment

Whether you’re an economist monitoring trade trends, a supply chain planner detecting bottlenecks, or an investor analyzing risk exposure, Cross Border Insights helps identify changes in vehicle flow patterns within hours, not months. Key use cases include:

  • Trade Flow Monitoring: Detect slowdowns, diversions, or route changes that may signal emerging disruptions.
  • Early Risk Detection: Anticipate shifts in sourcing, manufacturing, or freight costs before they appear in lagged official data.
  • Policy Impact Assessment: Quantify how new tariffs, regulations, or infrastructure changes affect border activity.
  • Investment Analysis: Identify leading indicators of performance for cross-border–dependent sectors.

When Official Data Goes Dark, INRIX Stays On

With the U.S. government currently shut down, data-dependent organizations face an information gap just when clarity is most needed. Cross Border Insights continues to deliver daily, ground-truth–correlated intelligence—empowering users to track freight and consumer movement, assess emerging risks, and respond with confidence. When others are waiting for the next government update, INRIX customers are already acting on it.
